Goodmorning my dearest,
today I want to talk about types of intelligence, and especially about the one considered above the average and special. ” To be above the average means to be overwhelmed by emotions and to think towards infinite” , says the cover of a very interesting book I have just read and I advice you to “Troppo intelligenti per essere felici” ( J. Siaud-Facchin). And from this sentence I would like to start. We have always been told that to have a high IQ is an advantage, and success and luck await the lucky peole born with this gift, geniality and power and so on with stereotyped equations! But have we ever wondered or informed on what having a higher intelligence means? Are we aware of how these people are and live? Obviously not, as always the successful equation gives us the category and that’s it! Easy as always, you were born more intelligent and you will be successful at school and anywhere, here it is and let’s avoid useless further reasoning! But let’s see how things really go. Let’s start erasing the concepts of “plus”, “minus”, “better”, “worse” etc and let’s begin from the concept of diversity. Let’s also say that IQ measurement is a parameter to measure logical capabilities, important but not the only one, and not able to consider all factors determining an individual’s intelligence. One of these, and a very impactive one, is the presence of emotional intelligence, that exactly as shown in the image above, dominates and influences the rational part, expressed by the IQ, as well. Right let’s start then saying that, to be born with this type of intelligence surely implies a deep and easy understanding, but also emotional energy, extremely difficult to control, in fact uncontrollable! To be overwhelmed by emotions, means to be its victim too, to perceive sorrow and pain around us, without any means for defense and to live each emotional status in a very strong and deep way. Besides this type of intelligence implies a different way of thinking and reasoning, more complex and stratified. This amplifies even more, the inputs coming from emotional perception. To think towards infinite means always doubting, and in primis about ourselves, always thinking , never find the end of a reasoning, involving thousands of variables, and so on on every and each little thing of our daily lives. And so, are we sure these people are so lucky? Are we sure these people will be predestined socially successful people? Not at all, these people suffer and tend not to easily approach social contexts. Since they are young at school they are often not understood, and all their lives are deeply influenced by the non comprehension of what their greater intelligence carries with it. The topic is very interesting and complicated and we will talk more and further about it, but I wanted to introduce it strongly, starting from off-masking dangerous stereotypes, and from facing the topic from the most important aspect, from which deducting reflections then. In Northern Europe, universities and research centres have been working to provide support to these people, since childhood to help them live with their diverse intelligence. But from what I see around me, we are still imprisoned by the stereotype that having an intelligence above the average must make us first at school and a successful adult. Thinking this way we generate huge damages. As a matter of fact, we oblige people with a normal intelligence to be different from their nature to follow dreams that satisfy others, but we also condemn people with a greater intelligence not to be able to express their pain and to live their emotions in solitude, and having to look brilliant and satisfied. Then when pain explodes in front of our eyes, with all its tragedy and violence, we barricaded behind other stereotypes which helpus move our attention from fundamental aspects, but too complex…at the end of the day everybody knows ” genius and no rules“,”crazy artists” and so on, and we come back to our imprisoned but calm lives, under anaesthesia I would say! Let’s stop not to listen to these people’s needs, because they are too intelligent and they can do by their own, let’s stop to label them as geniuses, nobody has actually ever understood what that means either, if not a label that helps us not to think. Let’s reason, instead, on how to help them to enable them to give their immense contribution to the world, starting from their intellectual diversity, instead of being flattened by it. What do you think about ? Have you met people with this type of intelligence? I look forward to receiving your reflections, because the topic deserves confrontation and discussion and I count on your meaningful contribution!
